shoulder pain in dogs - front leg lameness in dog - chiropractor for south of boston - cape cod - boston

Dog carry 60 percent of the body wt. on the front legs. If they jump off furniture or out of a car they may cause subluxation within the shoulder and or the neck. Subluxation is where a joint get stuck in motion and irritates nerves and muscles.

Your animal chiropractor will evaluate your dog differently than your Vet so a
subluxation of this type will not be found by your Vet. If this condition exists you want to contact an animal chiropractor once your Vet has cleared your dog of any disease process.

Chiropractic adjustments along with muscle work and exercise will help your dog regain normal activity.

Back pain in dogs - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston cape cod and boston

Dogs with back pain can have rounded backs and inability to jump. Often your vet will prescribe meds some of these meds can cause further problems. It is always a good idea to consult an animal chiropractor as well.

A common cause of back pain and even lamness is subluxation, which is a joint of the spine that is not moving correctly and inflamming nerves.

Chiropractor in Weymouth MA - low back pain and hip pain chiropractor in weymouth mass

The piriformis is a hip stabilizing muscle. It is in the shape of a pyramid on it's side thus the name.
When you have low back subluxations and sacroiliac [pelvis] subluxations this muscle will get tight. When I stretch our patients in the butt area this is the muscle I am working on. Then the adjustment to the hip is more complete. This muscle will limit most athletic activity if not worked on.

Bunny hopping in dogs - dog chiropractor south shore boston- cape cod - boston

Dogs that bunny hop may have low back and or sacroiliac  (si)( pelvis) problems. Sometimes it may be a stifle problem as well.

The SI may be subluxated thus not allowing the pelvis to rotate and carry the legs into normal flexion and extension so that when your dog runs the legs work individually and not together like a bunny.
There also may be tight muscles and adaptation in the lumbar spine w subluxation as well.

If the bunny hopping is subluxation and muscle based then xrays will probably be negative.
It is always a good idea to have your vet evaluate for pathology but if none are present then animal chiropractic would be a great next step. Chiropractic adjustments along with myofascial work and exercises can do wonders for this problem.

Chiropractor in Weymouth MA - chiropractor south shore boston - neck pain chiropractor weymouth ma

Recently I was told of a story about a patient's medical doctorwho stated " don't have the chiropractor adjust your neck". Some of you may wonder why he said this.
I have heard this from many medical doctors over the years. Medical doctors have next to no training in chiropractic and spinal bio-mechanics. The fear is that the chiropractor will cause injury to arteries and nerves. We will not cause injury since we are highly trained professionals in this field. In fact the malpractice insurance companies only charge on average about $1000 per year in premiums for 3 Million dollars of coverage.

Every day for over 115 years chiropractors have been adjusting the neck and the incidence is less likely than getting injured by lightning just look at the small premium we pay for 3 million worth of coverage. The underwriters know how remote this is.

So why do the medical doctors say this? Well with little to no education on chiropractic they base their statements on story's that someone told them that may not even be true. Most MD's have never seen a neck adjustment, never received one and have never attended any seminars or read any chiropractic textbooks, so all of this misinformation is just passed along. This erroneous information makes it hard on the chiropractic profession so please pass this along.

shoulder pain in dogs - chiropractor for dogs with shoulder pain - dog chiropractor south shore boston and cape cod as well as boston

Dogs carry 60 percent of their body wt on the front legs, now add in a dog that may be over wt or an older dog or even an agility or performance dog and the wt increases on the front end.

Subluxation to the shoulder joint and the neck is common and will cause lameness and hesitation going upstairs and jumping in and out of the car.

Chiropractic has wonderfully corrected this problem.

Chiropractor Weymouth Ma - Chiropractic back pain - lower blood pressure

ABC NEWS 2008 POSTED:

Having your cervical region [ neck ] adjusted by the chiropractor can also lower your blood pressure

in conjunction with the below article just makes more sense than medicating yourself with all of its side afffects.

New Study Shows Kyolic Lowers Blood Pressure Comparable to Prescription Medication

Dr_Karin_RiedOur trial suggests that Aged Garlic Extract is an effective and tolerable treatment for uncontrolled hypertension and may be a safe adjunct treatment to conventional anti-hypertensive treatment,” says Karin Ried, Phd, MSc, GDPH, lead author of the study. The conclusion was the result of a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled parallel trial conducted by researchers at the university of Adelaide and the National Institute of Integrative Medicine in Melbourne, Australia. You can read the full study here.
Just two capsules daily of Kyolic Reserve Aged Garlic Extract was enough to reduce systolic blood pressure by an average of 12mm of mercury – which is comparable to the effect of many commonly prescribed anti-hypertensive medicines. The partipants in this study we mostly on medications for blood pressure and we not well controlled. So these were some of the more difficult case to control conventionally. Some participants saw as much as a 40mm drop in systolic blood pressure. Kyolic was well tolerated as an adjunct therapy.
In this interview, I discuss this research with Dr. Karin Ried.Dr Ried is Research Director at the National Institute of Integrative Medicine in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Ried has over 15 years experience in medical and public health research, and research interest in complementary and integrative medicine with a focus on nutritional health. Her research projects encompass nutritional medicine, cardiovascular health, bone health, gastrointestinal health, cancer, women’s health, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I have several other interviews on the cardiovascular benefits of Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract. Dr. Matthew Budoff has 3 interviews on his clinical studies. Jay Levy discusses high blood pressure

Centered riding - Chiropractor for horses in mass

My latest article from Centered Riding:

Stall Calls with Dr. Bruce Indek

"Having the Long Leg"

In Centered Riding everyone talks about the long legs in the saddle.Being balanced is the key to having the long legs. This balance often starts in the pelvis and hip flexor muscles of the rider. If the sacroiliac joints of the rider are locked and or the Psoas muscle is tight this series of events will prevent you from gaining the long leg. One must also remember that if you are not balanced in the pelvis there will be abnormal weight distribution on the saddle thus giving the horse incorrect pressure.

What to do you may ask, well first start by incorporating stretching exercises that target the hip flexors, see your chiropractor periodically for spinal tune ups so that you benefit the most out of the stretching program.

A rider can do quad ( thigh ) stretches as well as hamstring and calf stretches to improve hip flexability. Yoga and palates has some great stretches that incorporate this hip and leg area.

You can hand walk your horse backward up a hill. Lifting the front leg and exerting enough pressure on the chest to just cause him to shift his weight backward but not step back ( this will strengthen his abdominals and allow for better engagement of the hind end ).

Have your horse evaluated by your Equine Chiropractor to be sure there is balance in the spine as well. Of course have your saddle fitted two times per year since your horse changes shape with age and season. Farrier visits are important too since the foundation of your horse starts with the feet.

Hearing problems and chiropractic - chiropractor south shore mass

Recently i had a patient tell me that her car radio sounded clearer. Ever since her neck adjustment her hearing had improved. Sounds amazing to some people but if u understand how the cervical spine has nerve fibers that affect hearing, it is not so far fetched. In fact chiropractic was founded on the fact that Harvey Lillard the first chiropractic patient in 1895 had lost his hearing due to a neck injury and his hearing was restored due to the adjustment he received from DD Palmer the first chiropractor.

Degenerative disc dogs -dogs with disc problems - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston- cape cod- boston

The disc in some dogs is genetically prone to problems and some dogs develop the problem due to activity.
The disc is like a jelly donut. The dough is cartilage and the jelly is the internal disc gel. The disc also provides space for the spinal nerves to exit the spine and power organs and muscles.
If the disc tears ( the cartilage tears and the gel weeps out ) pressure is put on the nerves and can especially affect the legs.
Chiropractic adjustments to the spinal bones above and below the disc will help the healing process.
Traction on the spine done manually by the chiropractor along w ice thrapy will also help.
