ACL or CCL in Dogs - roached back - chiropractor for dogs mass
Often a dog will injure the ACL or CCL when playing or jumping off. Sometimes your vet will recommend surgery and sometimes not. Animal chiropractic along with rehab will often help these dogs regain strength and prevent the other stifle from injury.
In some cases a dog may roach the back since there is a subluxation in the lumbar spine due to compensation from the ACL injury.
Please call me at 617-471-0661 or email me at indekchiropractic.com with any questions.

Sternal Lift
Improving cervical and wither function
To improve the muscle function of the subclavius and pectorals in a horse it is always a good idea to teach your owners the sternal lift exercise. This exercise will improve the bow and string concept that Dennis speaks of. Slowly starting at the sternum and sliding the round edge of a hoof pick or your fingers down the midline, you will notice a rise of the lower cervical spine and withers. The point that this rise occurs is the point at which you hold for 3 to 5 seconds. Repeat for 3 to 5 reps. The horse is now doing an abdominal crunch.
If there is not a lot of movement there may be a subluxation present and or just weak muscles. Remember by adjusting this horse you are stimulating alpha motor neurons and thus improving the strength of the horse. Over time there will be an increase in reponse as strength advances.

neck and back pain in a dog - chiropractor for a dog mass
Often dogs have issues in the neck and upper back. These issues are often diagnosed as subluxation [spinal bones that are locked up and irritating nerves]. The Cause can be claws that have not been trimmed. Keep the claws trimmed to the point that the claws do not touch the ground. The dog will hyperextend their paw putting muscle stress on the shoulder and neck/back. It would be like you walking on your heels for days, just think about your leg muscles and calf tightness you would have, not to mention your low back stress. You must have an animal chiropractor also adjust the subluxations which can be secondary to the claw problem.
Any questions about trimming or chiropractic please email me at indekchiropractic@gmail.com or call me at 617-472-0661.

Kissing spine in a horse and how to help the problem - horse chiropractor mass
Kissing spine means that the horse's spinous processes which are the bones you see on the back bone that stick out are literally touching each other and causing pain and inflammation. Doing specific exercises especially for the abdomen can cause the spinous processes to open up and take the stress off. This is a much better idea than injecting only for pain and inflammation. Not to mention you may be able to ride your horse again.
Short stride horse and back pain - Chiropractor for horse mass
Many times you will have a horse that drags a toe, drops a hip and or has a short stride in the rear and front. A chiropractic evaluation will show that this horse may have a sacroiliac subluxation causing one side of the hip to flex and pull up on one rear leg causing that leg to act as though it is shorter than the other side. The other side is acting as a long leg thus draging the toe. Since the Sacroiliac joint on the short stride side is subluxated [locked up] then when you hear that short leg hit the ground it will be loader when it hits the ground. The toe on the short leg side will usually toe in. The front leg on the opposite side will also be short strided.
Having a chiropractic evaluation of your horse will determine if your horse needs adjustments and or muscle exercise work.
Please contact me at 617-472-0661 or email me at indekchiropractic.com to discuss your horse.

Neck Stretches for your Horse
[a new technique]
To keep your horse healthy you must may attention to lateral bending [lateral flexion or side bending ] of the neck. Often times owners use carrot stretches to help this activity. The more you can isolate your horses neck muscles during a stretch the more effective it will become. The following stretches can also be used to strengthen your horse. Horses often cheat during a carrot stretch by rotating the head and you will lose some of the efficiency of the stretch. All of these stretches that you see in this article are from Hillary Clayton DVM in her book titled “Activate Your Horse’s Core.”
The first activity is for stretching the neck muscles:
• Stand at the shoulder facing away from the horse.
• Entice the chin toward the lower girth area so the horse’s neck curves gently around your body . Use long carrots and try to have the horse hold position for 3 to 5 seconds. Repeat 3 to 5 times.
• Put your free hand against the outside of the neck to feel those muscles stretching.
• If your horse moves their body to cheat, but them in a corner or along a wall so they cannot turn their entire body.
Stretch your horse’s neck and mid back muscles:
• Same as above neck stretch but this time stand behind the shoulder facing away from your horse.
• This time bring your horse’s chin to the lower flank toward the hock
• Hold for the same amount of time as you did for the neck stretch

Short Stride, Pelvic Pain, Low Back Pain - Chiropractor for horse Mass
Often the pelvic stabilizing muscles are weak and the Hypaxial muscles [ the abdominal muscles ] are tight. By doing some specific rear leg extension exercises and having a chiropractor evaluate the spine and pelvis you can often improve stride length and flexability for dressage or jumping. The rectus abdominal muscles and psoas muscles are often the culprits that need attention.

Fatty Liver Disease - Chiropractor for Dog or Cat Mass
When a cat or dog has lost it's appetite their is usually a build up of
fat in the liver giving rise to Hepatic Lipidosis. This increase in fat
will produce a decrease in liver function. The liver is the main
detoxifier of the body. The blood is sent thru the liver to be cleaned
of impurities thus a decrease in function can be detrimental to the life
of your animal.
Causes can vary from genetics, to meds such as rimadyl, sulfa drugs, infections, trauma to just name a few.
Symptoms are: lack of apetite, increased drinking, vomiting, fatigue, increased urination, diarrhea.
Your vet can treat this illness with many different approaches, one that works well is milk thistle and changing the diet.
Where does chiropractic enter in, well consider the fact that trauma is a cause and pain thus a loss of apetite can start the liver fat build up. Remember that the nerves from all the muscles interact with the autonomic nervous system that controls organ function so if there is a subluxation causing nerve and muscle issues there will be an alteration of function to organ systems such as the liver. Having your cat or dog adjusted along with seeing the Vet is a great idea to help improve overall function and healing.
