back pain in dogs is usually treated by your vet for pain and inflammation only as long as there is no disease process.
The difference between chiropractic and vet care for back pain is that the chiropractor will look for the biomechanical [subluxation] cause of pain and adjust the spine to remove the subluxation and pain.
There is a difference between acute care and wellness care. Most owners opt for ongoing wellness care after the subluxation is removed. Subluxations usually occur long before the pain starts so wellness care will correct subluxations long before the emergency occurs. Wellness care is usually a once per month visit to evaluate your dog for subluxation and keep your dog healthy naturally.
You must remember that most of the pain meds are toxic to the liver and kidney so if you can avoid them with chiropractic care your dog is better off.
