Acl is defined as the anterior cruciate ligament but actually in dogs it is also called the ccl ( cranial cruciate ligament). A common injury that does not always require surgery.
The problem is that your dog will compensate and stress the uninjured side resulting in a tear in the good knee. The lowback and pelvis will also develop issues not to mention muscle atrophy. It is imperative that specific exercises be given to help strengthen the supporting muscles and chiropractic adjustments to the low back and pelvis.
