Luxating Patella is common. It can be caused by a tilt of the pelvis causing the sacroiliac joint to lock thus inhibiting muscle movement in the thigh and knee. It can be caused by abnormal development in the knee. It can be caused by subluxation within the lower extremity. Surgery is the last resort.
Please consult an animal chiropractor for help. The chiropractor will adjust any subluxations and give you rehab exercises to aid your dog. I have helped many dogs live a great life without surgery. If it is severe then surgery is a must.
