COLD LASER info
In a nutshell if you purchase a cold laser it is important to know the Power in mW. If it is low like in the 5mW range you need to treat the area for a very long time compared to the 500mW type. Insufficient treatment will occur in the low mW types and you are wasting your money and time. You also need to be aware of the anatomy to maximize your time in use. Your Wavelength is also important. So you can see it is not as simple as point and shoot.

Class 1 & 2 lasers are can be purchased for use at home over-the-counter for use on humans and they have a maximum power of 5mW continuous. Several manufacturers make higher power lasers that qualify as a class 1 or 2 by pulsing the laser. Without a recommendation for a health care provider like the ones listed above, a pulsing laser is the best option. Just don't waste your time buying anything that looks like a laser pointer.
Class 3 lasers are designed for practitioners but can be purchased for use on humans at home with the recommendation of a health care provider. They can be purchased without any restrictions for use on pets and horses. Class 3 lasers must be less than 500mW per laser diode continuous output. Several manufacturers have higher power units that use multiple diodes that have TOTAL power level in the class 4 range but they are safe enough to qualify as a class 3b device because they have less chance of eye damage and no chance of tissue heating damage. Many laser manufacturers have a doctor on staff who can write a recommendation letter to meet the requirements so we can sell you a laser.

Dog Leg Lameness - Animal Chiropractor South Shore Boston-Boston-Cape Cod- North Shore Boston

If your dog has lameness in the legs and your Vet has cleared your dog of any disease process then it may be caused by Subluxation in the spine. I teach at the Options for Animals Chiropractic College and can tell you first hand that your Vet has no knowledge of Spinal Subluxations causing Lameness.
The Vets that take our course are stunned when they learn about this condition. As a Certified Animal Chiropractor I am trained to find these Subluxations and correct them along with Cold Laser so the lameness is corrected. Post exercises that I will give you are also important.
There are Chiropractors in the field that will offer to adjust your dog, please ask them if they have been certified by the American Vet Chiropractic Assoc. If not then they are not trained and will possibly hurt your dog. The training is 215 post grad hours with a Certification Exam. There are Docs out there teaching weekend courses to do Animal Chiropractic and these courses are dangerous to your animal. If the chiropractor is using an Activator to adjust your dog please do not allow this. This device is designed for humans and not animals and is a sham when used on your animal. The AVCA will not allow this tool to be used in certification exams.

Did u know chiropractic does more than treat back pain in people and animals? Chiropractic evaluates the spine for non-symptomatic nerve inflammation
and these nerves control all body function. So the adjustment removes nerve irritation and improves function of all systems and tissues in the body.

Animals with Back Pain the tip of the problem - Animal Chiropractor South Shore Boston - Cape Cod - Boston - North Shore Boston

Back pain is the end result of an issue. Animals are stoic and do not show pain until the problem has progressed. When you have your animal adjusted the aim is to correct the cause of the pain not just relieve the pain. This will normally take more that one visit since as stated the problem has persisted usually before the animal has shown symptoms.
Please call Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com
to schedule an appointment. I make house calls and barn calls.

dogs with back pain - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston - boston - cape cod

Dogs are very stoic so by the time they show symptoms of back pain the issue has advanced. Typical Vet diagnosed as disc problems, which is not the most common cause. I teach Vets at the Options for Animals Chiropractic College and I can tell you first hand that the Vets tell me that biomechanics of the spine and function are not taught in Vet school only extreme trauma, cancer, and disc problems are discussed so if your dog has no fractures or cancer then they deduce disc problems.

Animal chiropractors are trained to diagnose mechanical dysfunction of the spine as well as the nerve pinching that will occur. I have been adjusting dogs for years and I can tell you that spinal subluxations where the spine is stuck in motion and causing nerve irritation is the most common cause of back pain in house pet dogs all the way up to the high performance agility dog.

Please call Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com
to schedule an appointment. I do house calls all over New England.

animal chiropractor south shore boston, boston, cape cod, north shore boston

Please only access Certified Animal Chiropractors such as from the American Vet Chiropractic Assoc. If your Dr is not certified and is doing it for free or a charge then you are risking your dog's health as well as your liability.

There are many Drs that feel that since they adjust people why not animals. Well first of all the anatomy is different and they can hurt your dog. To be certified you must be a Lic chiropractor or vet and attende a 215 hour course in animal chiropractic and take a written and practical certification exam. This is all done to protect your animal so please do not let your Dr adjust without the training, it is just a bad idea!

Horse with back pain as well as Dog with back pain

VSC stands for Vertebral Subluxation Complex. The most common cause for back pain!
Restricted movement of the spinal bones called vertebra occur at the level of the Facet Joints as seen in this picture. The Facet Joints are literally the hinges that your spine moves about. When these Facet Joints become restricted they can irritate spinal nerves which are the main information highway from the brain to the organs and muscles as well as from the organs and muscles to the brain.
VSC can cause back pain or not. VSC can exist without symptoms and secretly diminish health of organs and muscles until enough damage is done and symptoms occur.
Symptoms can be lameness, sluggish behavior, outright pain, or organ dysfunction.
Cause of VSC can be trauma, age, repeated physical stress such as a poor fitting saddle improper harness, not warming up enough before activity, demanding sports such as dressage, jumping, agility.

Please call Dr Bruce Indek at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

lame dog - Dog Chiropractor South Shore Boston, Cape Cod, Boston - Animal Chiropractor

Lameness in dogs can be caused by a back issue, shoulder, hip, or paw.  Many times owners will take their dog to the Vet and the Vet will not find any cause for the lameness and prescribe Meds only. After many years of providing Animal chiropractic to dogs I can tell you that the back or shoulder is often the cause.

Dogs carry 60 percent of their body wt on the front end and often the shoulder can be subluxated [stuck in motion] causing lameness. If the back is involved then more wt shifts to the front legs and thus lameness.

Back issues that are very common are Subluxations in the spine.
This condition is where the spinal joints get stuck in motion and irritate nerves and muscles. This condition is not treated by your vet which is why an Animal Chiropractor is essential.

Please call me with questions or to schedule an appointment. I make house calls.

Dogs with Disc problems - dog chiropractor south shore boston and cape cod

Image result for picture of dog disc problemYou cannot see disc problems on an Xray. The disc is made of cartilage and gel. Xrays can only show bone and the disc space but not the actual disc, so please do not let someone tell you they diagnosed the disc bulge or herniation with an Xray.

Disc problems typically occur in the neck or low back. In the low back the most common area is the location of the spine where the ribs end and the lumbar spine begins. Disc problems in the neck will cause your dog not to eat or drink easily without pain and weakness on the front legs. Disc problems in the low back can cause rear leg lameness, back pain, roached back (rounded) as well as loss of bladder and bowel control.

Treatment of crate rest and meds only is not very effective. You need to have your dog receive chiropractic adjustments above and below the disc problem, acupuncture and rehab. Over the past 35 years I have helped many dogs regain their health and leg function. Please call Dr Bruce Indek at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com
to schedule an appointment. ALL APPOINTMENTS ARE DONE AT YOUR HOME.

disc problems in dogs and dog back pain - chiropractor for dogs boston, cape cod and south shore boston

Dogs with back pain that are brought to the Vet are often misdiagnosed as IVDD when in fact the more common issue is VSC (vertebral subluxation complex). VSC is where one or more of the spinal joints are "stuck" in motion and causing nerve irritation and muscle spasm. VSC can occur with any abnormal movement your dog makes such as a jump or quick change of position. VSC is not diagnosed by your Vet since they are unaware of this condition and thus often diagnose a disc injury or muscle pull and perscribe meds, rest and or surgury. Since VSC is most common you will need to consult a Certified Animal Chiropractor (American Vet Chiropractic Assoc). These Chiropractors are specially trained to diagnose VSC vs  IVDD. If a Vet referral is needed they will refer you. To correct VSC a Chiropractic adjustment is done in conjunction with cold laser and exercises. Often the treatment will be a few visits to correct the problem along with your home rehab program the Dr will give you. If there is an IVDD then often times your Animal Chiropractor along with your Vet can resolve the problem.
The following is just a simple explanation of IVDD. Any questions contact Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com our website is indekchiropractic.com and click Animal Chiropractic at the top.

Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is a condition where the cushioning discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column either bulge or burst (herniate) into the spinal cord space. These discs then press on the nerves running through the spinal cord causing pain, nerve damage, and even paralysis.

Breeds of dog that are predisposed to IVDD include the Dachshund, Beagle, Basset Hound, and Shih Tzu.

Made up of a gelatinous substance surrounded by a thick outer layer, intervertebral discs are basically the shock absorbers of the spine. There are two types of disc herniation seen in dogs: Type I and Type II, of which Type II generally has less severe signs and symptoms.

Symptoms of IVDD may include:

  • Unwillingness to jump
  • Pain and weakness in rear legs (lameness)
  • Crying out in pain
  • Anxious behavior
  • Muscle spasms over back or neck
  • Hunched back or neck with tense muscles
  • Reduced appetite and activity level
  • Loss of bladder and/or bowel control (urinary and fecal incontinence, respectively)

Hip pain in dogs, chiropractor for dogs boston, south shore boston cape code

Hip pain can cause front leg lameness sinc a dog carries 60 percent of their body wt on the front legs and when there is a hip issue even more wt on the front. This increased wt transfer will cause stiffness and strain on the front legs.
Hip pain can be caused by leg problems and or spinal problems. Animal Chiropractors have a specialized education in this area and your vet will not necessarily diagnose the problem correctly if it is not surgical or disease process. Standard vet care will be rest and meds, if it is a mechanical joint problem, u need an animal chiropractor to fix the issue.
Please contact Dr Indek with questions at 781-337-1180 or email at Indekchiropractic@gmail.com
Dr indek makes house calls throughout New England as well as adjusts dog at Groton Animal Hospital.

dog chiropractic, back pain in dogs-south shore boston dog chiropractor-boston dog chiropractor

Animal Chiropractic requires a Chiropractor or Vet to be certified after taking a 215 hour course and exam. There are Chiropractors and Vets that say they are certified but unless u can find them on the American Vet Chiropractic Assoc web site, then they are not.
Chiropractors have been trained over 4 years in post grad work to use their hands in the adjustment of the spine and extremities. A Dr that took a weekend course is NOT trained to do this work and can hurt your animal. The use of instruments or tools to adjust animals is also not taught in the 3 animal chiropractic colleges of which I am an instructor at Options for Animals. These instruments are a sham and you should not be paying for this care.

I travel all over New England making house calls for dogs and barn calls for horses, if u have any questions please contact me at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

dog sore back chiropractor for dogs south of boston, boston, north shore bostonl cape cod

Many dogs can experience a sore back and your vet will usually evaluate for disc problems and most cases this is not the problem. If your vet finds no disc problems then u will get meds for pain and inflammation. This approach will not fix the problem but rather treat the symptoms and cause other new issues due to compensation.

Most commonly the issue is a subluxation of the spine which is literally a spinal joint that can get stuck in motion causing nerve pain and muscle strain. A Certified Animal Chiropractor can easily evaluate your dog for this and a chiropractic adjustment along with cold laser can correct this. Your vet is not experienced in diagnosis of this issue so it will not be detected, I teach at Options for Animals chiropractic college and can tell you that the Vets that I teach are always amazed when I teach them about spinal biomechanics since this is not taught in their school.
