Cholesterol is not the problem - Homocystine is the problem - chiropractor south shore boston, chiropractor weymouth mass
Homocystine is created in the body as a natural product. At high levels it will cause damage to the artery linings making them more prone to have cholesterol plaques sticking and thus blocking blood flow.
Statin drugs have lowered cholesterol to prevent blocks but this is the WRONG approach. Statin drugs will cause muscle damage, loss of cognitive brain activity, diabetes, cataracts, and even sexual dysfunction like ED. Have you noticed more ED ads on TV, you want to know why? Well more and more men are being put on Statin Drugs thus more ED, follow the big pharm money trail.
How do you get high Homocystine levels? Stress from mental or physical activity. Intense exercise can rise homocystine. Athletes are prone to this damage then. To protect from atherosclerosis and thus cholesterol damage to flow all you need to do is take a good vit B complex, eat more green leafy veg, and take a creatine supplement. All these are good for many parts of the body.
Do not fall into the trap of Statins, most MD's are blind to these simple factors so do your research.

back pain or leg pain in a dog or person - chiropractor for dogs and chiropractor for people south shore boston
When pain is acute, sharp, inflamed, limping in dog or person. Use Ice 20 min on and 2 hours off. In dogs in should only be cool to touch. Inflammation is an increase in blood flow and when it is acute you do not want to increase blood flow thus anti inflam medications. So many Vets and MDs tell patients to use ice for 24 to 48 hours then heat but give them anti inflam meds past 48 hours. The heat increases blood flow which is what you do not want thus anti inflam meds. So use ice for as long as the pain is sharp or swollen or inflamed. Only use heat when pain is dull throb like in people and when dog is no longer yelping when touched.

Dogs with shoulder problems- chiropractor for dogs south shore boston, cape cod, boston
When a dog jumps out of the car ,off the bed or furniture ther is potential for subluxation in the neck and shoulder. Subluxation will pinch the nerves to the shoulderi muscles as well as the front leg.
Animal chiropractors are skilled at diagnosing this problem and fixing it.
Often your dog will be lame and refuse to jump. Your vet will clear them of illness but is not skilled at chiropractic so usually just meds are given for pain.
If you have a dog experiencing this please contact dr bruce at Indekchiropractic@gmail.com or 781-337-1180

Dog with back pain - chiropractor for dogs and horses south shore boston
Back pain is an elusive condition. Your standard Vet will prescribe meds for pain and muscle relax as well as crate rest. Most vets jump to the conclusion that this is a disc problem. Most cases it is not a disc problem and so the meds and crate rest will not fix the problem.
The most common cause is subluxation of spinal bones causing nerve pinching. Animal Chiropractors are the perfect doctor for this most common problem. You should always ask if the chiropractor is certified by the AVCA or IVCA.
My visits are in your home so your dog is most comfortable, I travel throughout New England.

back sensitivity and or back pain dogs- chiropractor for dogs south shore boston and boston
Dogs can have twitch like sensation in back which would look like a twitch when you pet them. This reaction could be caused by nerve irritation in the spine. Spinal nerves have branches that supply power to the muscles along the back so if these nerves are irritated by a subluxation complex a twitch may result.
Your vet will not usually pick up on this since standard vet ed does not stress nerve phys and or anatomy as animal chiropractic does.
Having your dog adjusted will fix this issue and prevent further problems such as disc problems and lameness.

Rear leg lameness in small dogs - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston, boston, cape cod
Rear leg lameness can be caused by luxating patella. The knee cap or patella is not riding in the grove properly so it can pull to the side on knee flexion thus causing strain of the muscles in the leg and periodic lameness after exercise and bunny hopping. Your dog will also compensate by shifting his weight to the opposite side thus causing spinal subluxations as well as shoulder subluxations on the opposite side.
Animal Chiropractors are expert at evaluating this problem and helping your dog since they look at the whole dog and not just the knee.
Please call Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

Swayback in a horse can be caused by weak abdominal muscles and oer subluxations within the spine.
The simple backward walking in hand up an incline can help develop these muscles. Also lifting one front leg and slightly pushing back on the sternum will also exercise the core.
Chiropractic adjustments along with activity will help correct this weakness.

Chiropractic for dogs and horses - how to know if the doctor is certified
First you must be a licensed Chiropractor of Vet. The course is 5 month and 215 hours with a board exam.
I teach at Options for Animals Chiropractic College and the course work is demanding.
There is a course out there called VOM which is a joke. The course is over a few weekends with next to no lab work [ hands on demo]. They also offer it online so you do not even have to go to a seminar. Would you like your doctor to have been trained in a few weekends without any board testing... probably not.
I am a certified animal chiropractor by the Amer Vet Chiropractic Assoc and as stated teach at the college. Please always ask about certification.

dog with shaking or quivering leg- Chiropractor for dogs south shore boston- Canine Chiropractic South shore boston cape cod boston
Dogs sometimes have a leg that quivers This commonly is due to muscle fatigue since there may be stress on the muscle from abnormal movement. This abnormal movement can be from Subluxations of the spine or extremities. When the subluxation which is a joint locked in motion causing nerve irritation occurs it decreases power to the muscle and early fatigue sets in. Your dog may also compensate on the other leg or even use the front end to a greater degree and thus causing issues in the shoulder and or neck.
Chiropractic evaluates the joints of the spine and extremities as well as the nervous system. Adjustments to these subluxations will enable the body to correct them and restore normal nerve function and thus the quivering will halt.

horse with back pain and Chiropractor for horses south, north and west of Boston as well as cape cod
Cold laser therapy on horses can have a profound affect in as little as 3 min. I treated a mare yesterday 10/1/13 who had lameness issues and sore back when the rider got on. After 3 min of treatment the owner could not believe that the mare was dropping her head and the lower lip was relaxed. The owner said she never relaxed like that before. Once I also adjusted the mare the entire back reaction was gone!

Chiropractor for Dogs and Horses - Chiropractor for Dogs in Back Pain South Shore Boston
Dogs like people can experience back pain caused by subluxation, muscle spasm and or disc problems. Sometimes the pain can be caused by a limp issue. Your Vet will normally not be able to recognize the issue beyond muscle or disc problems and usually just prescribe meds or expensive tests. If your dog or horse has been cleared by the vet of any organ issues and or disease then an animal chiropractor is your next choice.
Dr Bruce does house calls and barn calls and will evaluate, chiropractic adjust, cold laser , muscle work and give you exercises to do with your animal.

Chiropractor in Weymouth Ma - Sports Injury Chiropractor Weymouth MA
Bruce Indek is the lead chiropractor and organizer of the chiropractic section at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. At the finish in Copley Square, he can be found with his glowing flashlight from Logan Airport directing runners to the chiropractic tent situated by the old John Hancock building.
Bruce is a certified chiropractor and practices in Quincy, MA. He has worked as a chiropractor for many athletic events like the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii. He also traveled with the US Triathlon team in the early 1990’s.
When Bruce moved to the Boston area 29 years ago, he quickly became interested in volunteering for the Boston Marathon. He noticed that there were no chiropractors working at the finish, so, he contacted the medical team at the B.A.A. and told them he wanted to offer his skills as a chiropractor. “At the time, there were only fifteen people at the medical meeting I attended,” he said.
1985 was the first year that Bruce volunteered. He remembers how minimal the resources were at the time: “I was the only chiropractor on the medical team. We had to assemble army cots to use for the runners, and all we had to give them to eat was some bullion and Doritos.” Since then, the chiropractic team has grown to approximately twelve chiropractors that have their own separate chiropractic tent.
Bruce has watched the marathon evolve and has seen some incredible moments in marathon history. At the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, all of the medical tents moved to Boston Common to accommodate all of the runners. He remembers watching as a “sea of space blankets walked down Boylston” towards him and his team. Another year, Bruce had a nice chat with Johnny Kelley about some of Johnny’s paintings that Bruce had seen. Bruce said he will never forgot those moments.
For Bruce, above all else, it is the “kinship” he feels with the runners that keeps him coming back to volunteer. “I see the same people that come back every year, and we are friends for ten minutes each year,” he said. “If I wasn’t having fun, I wouldn’t keep coming back. The atmosphere is electric.”
He considers this race to be “a premiere athletic event” that has become a tradition for him each year. “All of my patients know that I won’t be open on Marathon Monday,” he said. “I’ll be in Boston.”

dog licking - Lick infection - Lick Granuloma - Chiropractor for dogs Boston, Cape Cod and South Shore - Dr Indek
Dogs that lick to the point of the skin becoming raw and infected is a common problem with subluxation. It is always best to have your vet evaluate for infection and skin allergies. If this is not present then Subluxation is the cause and chiropractic is the answer.
Subluxation is a spinal joint that is stuck in motion and is causing a nerve to be irritated in the spine resulting in an abnormal skin sensation. These sensations would be like the tingling or pain that a human experiences with sciatica. This can happen in the neck and or the low back commonly. Your dog is licking to stimulate the area and aid in healing but it will not help him so he keeps licking and eventually causes a secondary infection.
Having your dog adjusted by a certified animal chiropractor for a few visits along with possibly cold laser and some other home aids will often help.
Please contact Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

Non-Linear
Dynamics and the explanation of how your adjustment has such far
reaching effects- WOW! If you are thinking that I have spent too much
time over at MIT the answer is no,lol. But this little explanation will
help you understand how this Chiropractic endeavor works based on ...
Yes science:
Linear systems are Newtonian in nature meaning that Newtons law of motion states that a body at rest tends to stay at rest and one in motion tends to stay in motion until an outside force is exerted on them. This law of Newton mechanics for many years accounted for motion of virtually any object. Linear systems also work on the theory that "what you put in is proportional to what is put out." Well in living systems this just does not play out. The auditory system shows us that a very small sound stimulus can have a very large response in the hair cells of the inner ear. So a non-linear system is at play here in the auditory system where upon non-linear systems function on the concept that output is not proportional to input.
A Physiological principle known as the Arndt-Schultz Law states
1. Small doses of force stimulate functions in living organisms with little or no inhibition.
2. Larger doses of force initially stimulate and then equally inhibit function.
3. Very large forces dramatically stimulate function for a very short time only and dramatically and for long periods of time inhibit, even to the point of death.
SOOOO lets think about the adjustment ... More force is probably a bad idea! In fact the High velocity Low amplitude force is why Chiropractic adjustments have such a awesome effect on stimulating function. If you used high amplitude you would actually do the reverse of your intention [too much force}. Effects on the nervous system are thus far reaching!!

Well in living systems this just does not play out.
If you used high amplitude you would actually do the reverse of your intention [too much force}.Effects on the nervous system are thus far reaching!!

Dogs with back pain-chiropractor for dogs south shore boston, cape cod, boston
Dogs with back pain will exhibit the "roached" back. This is where the back arches up due to muscle spasm. Your vet will probably prescribe muscle relaxers and pain killers. These drugs will make your dog feel better but will not correct the problem. Usually the symptoms subside and owners think the dog is better and usually the problem returns and can be worse. Vets usually conclude it is a disc problem and order expensive tests, it is not usually a disc problem but more often a subluxation complex that chiropractic can fix.
Please contact a certified animal chiropractor by the American Vet Chiropractic Assoc such as myself, do not allow your none certified human chiropractor to adjust your dog.

Foot pain - plantar fascitis - flat feet- chiropractor weymouth south shore boston
Foot pain can be caused by flat feet, plantar fascitis , subluxation in the foot/ankle, and low back.
Many people go to the foot doctor with no relief. The foot doctor usually will give you inserts for the shoes but this will not fix the cause. A mechanical problem within the foot bones and or the ankle is most likely the cause, so chiropractic adjustments to this mechanical fault along with laser treatment to the fascia and then inserts or shoe change will fix this.

why can't my dog bend his neck to drink or eat/ neck pain in dogs-chiropractor for dogs south of boston and boston as well as cape cod
The action of flexion [bending the head down] to eat or drink may indicate a subluxation in the neck as well as possible disk problems. These issues can even be in the upper to mid back region. Your dog may have tightness in the muscles along the spine due to these subluxations and thus cannot elongate these muscles in order to eat or drink.
Canine Chiropractor certified by the AVCA can determine if chiropractic can help and with some adjustments along with cold laser and some exercises many of these dogs return to normal.

neck problems with dogs as well as front leg lameness - chiropractor for dogs south shore of boston and boston mass
Your dog may have neck pain which can cause front leg lameness. The nerves from the neck control all the front leg muscles and joints, so a subluxation within the neck can cause nerve pinching and thus loss of muscle power in the front legs. Your dog may even have a locked shoulder which in turn can cause neck pain.
Subluxation in the neck and or shoulder can be caused by jumping off a high object or even from an ill fitting harness or collar.
Animal Chiropractors are specialized in diagnosing subluxations, your vet is not. Typically your vet will screen for other health ailments and when ruled out will prescribe anti inflam meds, and pain killers. These meds will not fix the mechanical subluxation complex but rather just cover up the symptoms.
As an Animal Chiropractor I will come to your house and evaluate your dog for subluxation and give them an adjustment, exercises and even cold laser if needed to help restore normal nerve function.
I travel throughout New England. Please contact Dr Bruce at indekchiropractic@gmail.com or phone at 781-337-1180.

Dog pain - shakes or trembles after exercise - Dog chiropractor south shore boston - cape cod- boston
If your dog shakes or trembles post activity you should first think about having your vet check for things such as lyme. If you vet find nothing wrong then it is time to see the animal chiropractor. Please always check to be sure the animal chiropractor is certified by the Amer. Vet. Chiropractic Assoc.
The problem may be caused by a strained muscle and a subluxation of the spine causing nerve irritation and thus inadequate power supply to the muscle. When the muscle is used with less that optimal power supply the fatigue factor kicks in and the muscle shakes. I recently had a dog who had a 'stuck' shoulder joint causing abnormal muscle use and thus shaking as well. Your vet is not trained to find these sort of issues which is why they could not find the problem.
Chiropractic adjustments along with exercise and cold laser often solves the problem.

Disc problems in Dogs - slipped disc in dogs- dog chiropractor south of boston and cape cod south shore
Various dogs have disposition to disc problems. These dogs actually have a change in the chemical composition of the disc. A substance called "Proteoglycans" are one of the chemical changes that occur. Proteoglycans are a natural part of the disc and they offer structural support and help retain moisture in the disc. When these proteoglycans diminish in amounts as the dog ages in that particular breed such as Dachs then the disc loses some of it structural strength and moisture. The loss of moisture in the disc makes it brittle. Discs are like jelly donuts in that there is cartilage on the outside like the dough and a gel on the inside. When the disc proteoglycans diminish the cartilage becomes brittle and can develop cracks. Once the cracks occur the inside gel can start to leak out causing the disc to bulge and press on the nerves exiting out the spine. Jumping is often a cause for the disc to crack more and result in disc bulge or herniation.
Chiropractic along with traction exercise and cold laser has helped these dogs heal as well as prevent further spinal problems above and below the disc problem. These dogs must also have some rehab exercises to strengthen their core muscles to support their body.

neck pain and chiropractic for dogs-dog chiropractor south shore boston and cape cod
Subscapularis is a muscle under the shoulder blade and ties into the shoulder. This muscle is powered by nerves in the upper back and neck. If your dog has difficulty on the front legs then this muscle may be involved. Massage alone will not fix the problem. You have to look at the nerve supply to that muscle as well.
If your dog does agility then bars will get knocked down or weave poll difficulty will possibly occur.
Many owners will use stretching tech. to improve their dog but often this is short term.
Animal chiropractic will evaluate the entire region and will often adjust the bones that can interfere with these power nerves and then apply cold laser to the region to speed healing. The chiropractor will often give you exercises to aid in the healing and strengthening process.

Back pain in dogs and horses , chiropractor for dogs and horses south shore boston cape cod
Back pain is a symptom not the problem. To fully diagnose the cause involves a history and exam to rule out disease and other organ issues that can cause back pain. Many times the cause is mechanical in nature, meaning that the spianal bones are not moving correctly and the nerves are"pinched" causing muscles to tighten and voila back pain.
Certified animal chiropractors can diagnose the back pain cause and either treat your dog or horse or refer them to your Vet. Chiropractic treatment will involve adjustments done by hands as well as cold laser therapy and possibly homeopathic. There are some chiropractors that use hand held devices to adjust your animal, these were designed to be used on humans and do not fit the protocol for animals. I am an instructor at Options for Animals Chiropractic College which is one of 3 certified animal chiropractic colleges by the AVCA. There are vets and chiropractors that are not certified and took a weekend course and claim to do chiropractic, this is mis leading the public. I have been in practice for 30 years and there is no way someone can become a chiropractor in a weekend, these doctors are potentially hurting your animal or doing nothing.

back pain and abdominal pain as well as roach back in dogs; chiropractor for dogs south shore mass and cape cod
In the summer we take our dog to the beach. Dogs will play and dig as well as possibly play with a ball. All of this activity is great except you have to watch for sand coli, ingestion of sand by mouth and nose. Common in horses but can happen to dogs. Sand can impact within the stomach, small intestine and large intestine causing a blockage. Your dog will vomit, not eat, shake, pant as well as roach up his back. Bring the dog to a vet asap for possible xray and eval. Xray really shows the sand well.
Your vet will give IV and watch for sand passage in feces. If the sand does not pass they may try enema. Post illness they will advise on bland diet like chick and rice. Your dog may be fatigued for 12 to 24 hours as well.
Have your dog adjusted by the chiropractor after the illness asap to help stimulate the spinal nerves that control the colon this will also help.
Please contact Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

Chiropractor for dogs cape cod/ south shore/ boston
Dr Bruce makes house calls for your dog at very affordable rates. Chiropractic treatment is termed Adjustments. Chiropractic Adjustments are done by bringing the affected joint to its end of normal range of motion, then applying a either a slow and gentle pressure or a quick light thrust in order to "unstick" the "stuck" joint. The goal is to restore normal motion and improve nerve function.
Many people including Vets think that chiropractic is a very physical twisting of joints and bones, nothing good be more incorrect. I think this is the reason why many Vets do not refer to chiropractors and why Vet Surgeons will usually advise owners to stay away from chiropractors, these Vets are not educated to the concepts and procedures of chiropractic so they make judgements on prejudice.
I teach at Animal Chiropractic College and many Vets who start our program are amazed on the in depth science and technique of Chiropractic, not to mention the gentle treatment of Adjustments.

chiropractor for dogs south of boston and cape cod - back pain and lameness treatment and prevention
Back pain is the symptom not the problem. There are many causes for back pain in your dog, once your vet has cleared your dog of any organ issues, then the chiropractor should be your next step. One of the most common causes of back pain that is not disease centered is the Subluxation Complex. This is the process where a spinal bone gets locked up in movement and causes nerve irritation with ensuing muscle tension. If left untreated this Subluxation Complex can start to impair many body functions. Animal Chiropractors are the only skilled profession that can evaluate your dog for Subluxation Complex and correct it with Chiropractic Adjustments.
The causes of Subluxation Complex are varied and poor fitting collars and harnesses can cause the problem, one great article that came out in Whole Dog July 2013 had a great article on Harness Power.... what type of harness is best for your dog, with tips on fitting. Many owners these days use a harness but sometimes they are the wrong type and or fit. As an example.. if you have a dog that loves to pull a "no-pull harness" with the clip in the front will work best and fit is essential or you can cause front leg problems. Some owners use a towel to lift up their disabled dog, this can cause abnormal pressure on the abdomen and spine so a harness designed to dispurse lifting forces is best.
Please contact Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or indekchiropractic@gmail.com

Front leg lameness in a dog - Dog Chiropractor south shore boston-cape cod - boston
Often an owner will notice that their dog is not bearing normal wt on the front leg or favoring a leg.
They will often go to the Vet and have an evaluation for torn muscles/ligaments/paw issues, thyroid, lyme, and disc problems. If none of these conditions pan out then a prescription for meds to treat pain and meds for muscles will be given along with crate rest.
Meds alone and crate rest would be the wrong way to go. Many times low back problem can cause front end problems. The neck and or thoracic spine may have subluxations causing inhibition of normal gait as well. A Certified Animal Chiropractor can find these issues and correct them. Your Vet is not trained in the biomechanical diagnosis that the animal chiropractor does so these problems often go untreated.
Please contact Dr Bruce at indekchiropractic@gmail.com or phone 781-337-1180

Chiropractic Physicians Provide Natural Alternatives for Pain Treatment, Injury Prevention
Arlington, Va.—An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) suggests patients try chiropractic services for the treatment of low back pain. According to the article, surgery is not usually needed and should only be considered if more conservative therapies fail. The information in JAMA reinforces the American Chiropractic Association’s (ACA) position that conservative care options should serve as a first line of defense against pain.
The article, part of JAMA’s Patient Page public education series, explains that the back is made up of bones, nerves, muscles and other soft tissues such as ligaments and tendons that support posture and give the body flexibility. Back pain can be caused by problems with any of the structures in the back.
As neuromusculoskeletal experts, chiropractic physicians are particularly well suited to manage and help prevent low back pain.
“We are encouraged to see JAMA suggest patients try chiropractic and other more conservative types of treatment for their back pain. In many cases pain can be alleviated without the use of unnecessary drugs or surgery, so it makes sense to exhaust conservative options first,” said ACA President Keith Overland, DC.
“Research confirms that the services provided by chiropractic physicians are not only clinically effective but also cost-effective, so taking a more conservative approach at the onset of low back pain can also potentially save both patients and the health care system money down the line,” he added.
For those who are currently pain-free, the exercise tips, posture recommendations and guidance on injury prevention routinely provided by chiropractic physicians can help people maintain a healthy back throughout their lives. To learn more, visitwww.acatoday.org/backpain.
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA), celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, is the largest professional association in the United States representing doctors of chiropractic. ACA promotes the highest standards of patient care and professional ethics, and supports research that contributes to the health and well-being of millions of chiropractic patients. Journal of the American Medical Association recommends Chiropractic
Posted by Dr David H Mruz,
The JAMA’s recommendation comes on the heels of a recent study out of the medical journal Spine where sufferers of lower back pain all received standard medical care (SMC) and half of the participants additionally received chiropractic care. The researchers found that in SMC plus chiropractic care patients, 73% reported that their pain was completely gone or much better after treatment compared to just 17% of the SMC group.
Back pain can be anything from dull or sharp pain in your back or tingling or numbness that runs down your leg. These symptoms may indicate a pinched nerve which occurs when the disc bulges out and puts extra pressure on the nerve that is exiting between the spinal bones.
Chiropractic care can show you how to properly maintain back health and prevent the possibility of future spinal pain. Surgery should always be a last resort because there is a higher chance of failure. If you have or have had back pain or any other spinal conditions, please follow the advice of the JAMA and consider seeing a chiropractor.

back pain in dogs - Chiropractor for dogs Cape Cod, Nantucket, Boston, South Shore of Boston
Back pain can be caused by many instances. Such as ulcers and even
subluxations. Subluxations are when the spinal bones get locked in
motion causing muscle tension, inflammation and pain. The simple act of having your dog get up into the car can cause pain.
As an animal chiropractor certified by the american vet chiropractic assoc. I can discern if your dog will be helped by chiropractic. back pain in horses - chiropractor for horses north shore boston and south shore
Back pain can be caused by many instances. Such as ulcers and even subluxations. Subluxations are when the spinal bones get locked in motion causing muscle tension, inflammation and pain. The simple act of tacking up can cause the horse to act out of sorts.

Agility dog back and shoulder pain- chiropractor for dogs south of boston and cape cod
I adjust many agility dogs and work with the cape cod agility club. Shoulder and back pain can be caused bybsubluxations thus creating muscle tightness. Stretching alone will not correct the problem. The subscapularis muscle is often at fault. This muscle will inhibit front leg extension and missing poles. Chiropractic adjustments and cold laser to the muscles will fix this issue. Exercises will then be helpful.

Chiropractor for Dogs south shore boston/boston/cape cod
Some dogs hate nail trimming, others merely
tolerate it, almost none like it. Some dogs need tranquillizers to
make it through the process without biting, while others sleep through
the procedure without a care. No matter what your dog’s personal take
is on nail clipping, it is something you should do for your IGs
regularly to keep from harming their skeletal structure.
A dog’s nails are important parts of their anatomy. Unlike cats, dog claws are not weapons, but are used when he runs to grip the ground when accelerating and turning corners. Outdoor dogs run around enough over different surfaces and wear their own nails down. But our house-bound companions don’t get that natural wear from carpet, hardwood, or vinyl flooring. And since IGs have nails that grow more quickly than most other breeds, it’s easy for them to get too long.
Having long nails changes the way a dog carries himself. The diagram below shows how a long nail causes the bones in the foot to flatten and the Metacarpal, Phalanx I and Phalanx II bones to sit more angled every time the dog walks or stands. The different angle of the bones when pressure is applied causes joint stress and can lead to joint pain and arthritis. It also leads to dropped wrists which make the dog look flat footed. Women reading this article can probably relate if they think about wearing high heels all the time. Long toe nails essentially do the same to dogs by changing the natural alignment of leg bones which adds torque or twisting to the joints. Personally, high heeled shoes wreak havoc on my knees and I suffer from knee joint pain for days after wearing them. I can’t imagine the pain a dog goes through whose owner never trims his nails or doesn’t trim nails often enough.
Changing the natural alignment also makes the dog less steady on his feet and can contribute to an increased probability of broken legs. If the dog’s joints are out of whack, he can’t catch himself from falling or landing as well. Again, if you compare how steady you ladies are in sneakers compared to high heels you can relate to how a dog with long nails might feel all the time. Since broken legs are already such a problem for Italian Greyhounds, this makes keeping your Iggy’s nails trimmed even more important.
The image shows how the bones of the paw and wrist angle back when a dog has long nails, but the damage doesn’t stop there. All the bones in a dog’s body are connected and the leg bones connect all the way up to the spine. Some of you might relate to how an injury on one part of our body can cause us to carry ourselves differently and create pain in another part of our body. Unfortunately, our dogs can’t tell us when they have a headache or shoulder ache and many times we miss the slight signals that they are in pain. Since dogs can’t trim their own nails, it’s up to us to make sure this dog maintenance is performed before the pain sets in.
IGs usually need their nails trimmed every two to three weeks, if not more often. Frequent walking (daily, fast paced, long walks) can help wear down nails and increase the time between trimmings. For our dogs, nail trimming is a two person job and my husband holds dogs on his lap with their feet sticking outwards while I clip. The red line in the diagram to the left shows where to cut the nail. The nail comes straight out, and at the point where it starts to bend downward, you should cut at a 45 degree angle. It’s always a good idea to have Kwik Stop or another blood stopping product on hand in case you hit the quick. If trimming nails is not your forte, groomers or vet clinics are good alternatives to keep your dogs’ nails well groomed.
Some dog owners prefer to grind down (commonly using a Dremel tool) their dog’s nails. For comprehensive instructions on how to Dremel your dog’s nails, please refer to Tia Resleure’s article “The Importance of Proper Nail Grooming to Dogs, especially Italian Greyhounds!”.
Unfortunately, it is easy to overlook this basic grooming. Many of the dogs we take in to rescue, regardless of what their situations were before, need a nail clipping when they arrive. Similarly, I’ve noticed at playdates there are always a couple IGs with very long claws. Remember though, that trimming claws is not merely a cosmetic issue, but it is also a health issue. You and you IG may dread biweekly trims, but it is one of the most basic things you can do to take stress off your pups’ joints as they age.
Any Questions please call Dr Bruce at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

nerves in the neck- Chiropractor Weymouth mass- indek chiropractic Weymouth mass
The nerves of the neck are the green lines you see leaving the neck and running down under the collar bone and down to the arm. This anatomical reason is why when you have pain or numbness in the arm or hand the chiropractor will adjust your neck and relieve the stress on those nerves and Voila pain and numbness is gone.
back and neck pain - cold laser - chiropractor weymouth mass south shore boston
Cold laser is used by physical therapist, trainers and chiropractors to treat pain in muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. When a chiropractor uses cold laser it is done very differently than the PT or trainer. Since chiropractors are experts in neurology the cold laser will be applied in relation to the nerves that supply that muscle, tendon and or joint. There are spinal levels that directly relate to say the deltoid [shoulder muscle] within the neck so placing the laser at the deltoid and the specific bones of the neck will stimulate that neurological connection to speed healing.
The next phase is adjusting the neck and back where those nerves are compromised as well as up-regulating the muscles that support them using the laser. What this means is having the patient doing specific exercises to the involved muscle while the laser is being applied to that muscle.

dogs with hip and muscle pain - chiropractor for dog with hip pain south shore boston and cape cod.
Hip pain can be the result to hip dysplasia, lyme, arthritis and subluxation. It is always a good idea to have your vet test your dog for lyme if they are lame or have difficulty getting up.
If the lyme test is negative and there are no other disease processes causing the pain then an animal chiropractor is your next step.
Always check to be sure the animal chiropractor is certified by the American Vet Chiropractic Assoc or the International Assoc. There are some Vets and Chiros that have taken a weekend course vs the 215 hour course, this weekend course is insufficient to take care of your dog and can actually hurt them for obvious reasons [ insuff. training].
The animal chiropractor who has taken the 215 course work is trained to identify if your dog needs chiropractic or vet care. The entire dog will be evaluated and if the problem is caused by a subluxation of the spine and or extremities then a course of adjustments will be given along with rehab exercises and possibly cold laser treatment.
I have been treating animals for over 8 years and teach at the Options for Animals Chiropractic College in Wellsville KS . All of my visits are house calls as well, price range from 50 to 95. Please contact me at 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com and my website is indekchiropractic.com

MITOCHONDRIA!!
wow does that stir up memories of science class? These little power
houses make the power that all the cells in living tissues use to do
their job whether it is a muscle, nerve or even heart cell. During
stress from physical injury such as "over use" from any activity, or just
prolonged inactivity. these MITOCHONDRIA are injured and do not produce the
appropriate power to heal the tissue, thus your dog or horse will possibly be lame, or just not moving correctly.
The chiropractic
adjustment along with the cold laser stimulate the MITOCHONDRIA to heal
and start producing more power supply for healing, so............ they
get better faster.

chiropractor for dogs, horses and people south shore boston/ chiropractor for pain in back for dogs and peopleDr
Dr Indek has been using Cold Laser Therapy with his animal and people patients and getting amazing results.
This therapy is for Pain, Injured Tissue such as ligaments, tendon, muscle, cart., joints, arthritis , disc problems.
It has no side effects and is totally safe, not to mention has FDA approval.
A specific frequency laser light with specific wavelengths of light are focused on the tissue ie. shoulder, knee, spine, for a period of 5 to 10 min over a course of 6 to 10 visits. When stress to tissues occur such as injury or pain the Mitochondria in the cell of those tissues are damaged which inhibit the cell from healing and functioning normally. Mitochondria produce the fuel that all cells use to do their job be it a nerve cell, heart cell , muscle cell ........
The effects are as follows:
At the Cell Level : Mitochondria repair and increased fuel production for a cell.
At the Organ Level : Normal organ function returns since its cells have repaired
Symptom Level: Symptoms decrease and stop
Thus healing occurs not just symptom relief.

Back pain/ nerve injury/ligament-tendon damage - cold laser therapy chiropractor south shore boston
On Saturday I attended a seminar on the use of Cold Laser Therapy, some of you have heard me talk about it. Well it blew me away on how versatile this therapy can be for people and animals. I now have a cold laser that I will be using in the office and on animal visits. Please read this descripton below which is a brief review of how it works and just a sample of conditions it will help. Those of you that utilize my animal chiropractic will see amazing results in a shorter amount of time than the human data below, since animals have a higher tuned nervous system.
In a nutshell, Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) causes tissues to heal faster – muscle, skin and nerve – 66% faster according to the above FDA study.
Specifically, LLLT works at the cell level. Human cells produce a chemical known as ATP (adenosine tri- phosphate) to run the body and heal tissue. All of our body’s activities result from the use of ATP, it’s like gasoline to a car. LLLT stimulates a micro-structure within the cells called the mitochondria (nicknamed the “powerhouse” because it produces ATP) to produce slightly higher amounts of ATP. Thus with more ATP at the cell level, tissues heal faster, and therefore relief comes quicker.
Conditions and Symptoms
As is true of many alternative therapies, you may receive alternative benefits to being treated, in addition to what you wanted fixed in the first place. This is because the ATP being produced is “systemic”, meaning although we’re focusing the laser on a particular area, the ATP is ultimately being sent throughout your entire body. The list of symptoms responding to LLLT is growing, and more valid research is being performed on a daily basis.
Carpal Tunnel
Sciatica
Sports Injuries
Scars and Scar Tissue Wound healing
Acute and Chronic Pain Neuropathy
Neck & Back Pain
Headaches & Migraines Fibromyalgia
Nerve & Disc Pain
Even people and animals with arthritis will see greatly improved movement and pain reduction. Athletes will see improved energy, flexability and strength.
Number of Treatments needed: 4-12 treatments are necessary to begin the healing process of tissue, although in some cases relief can begin immediately. Maximum treatment would be 1x per day per area, minimum would be 1x per week to still see results. Multiple areas of complaint may be treated. This treatment cycle may need to be repeated, and eventually spread out.

Chiropractor weymouth mass - back pain
The best care available is chiropractic. Your MD will usually not advise you to go since they have little to no knowledge about chiropractic.
At my office I have a massage therapist joe alvero lmt that specializes in myofascial release which will help those muscle knots. I am also using a gentle chiropractic adjusting tech that speeds healing.
Please call me to discuss your case 781-337-1180 or email at indekchiropractic@gmail.com

Dogs with front leg lameness - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston cape cod boston
Dogs carry 60 percent of their wt on the front legs so there is alot of stress in the shoulder joint. Now add jumping and that force increases. The most common problem that causes front leg lameness is subluxation of the shoulder ( locking of the joint and inhibiting extension of the front leg resulting in short stride as well.
Chiropractic adjustments a nd stretches will correct this problem.

Horse that throws head up - back problem in horse - chiropractor for horses mass - south shore boston and north shore
Horses iniate movement by tucking the pelvis and flexing the low back. If your horse starts to throw his head on forward motion then there may be a subluxation ( stuck ) joint in the sacroiliac and or lumbar region.
The head toss is to help your horse transfer his weight back to the hind end to aid in flexion of the lumbar and pelvis since they are not flexing on their own.
A chiropractic evaluation will be able to determine if a subluxation complex is the cause and adjustments as well as specific exercises will correct it.

Arthritis in dogs - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston- cape cod and boston
Arthritis in dogs is a permanent problem that needs to be mananged with maintanence chiropractic care. Your dog will compensate and injure other joints. Having on going chiropractic check ups will keep the arthritic joints from progressing as well. Some owners elect to wait for symptoms to call the chiropractor but owners need to know sometimes this is too late and your dog cannot get back to pre symptom state.
Being proactive is the healthiest for your dog as well as financially cheaper since acute care is just more expensive with increased frequency of care.

Hunched back and back pain dogs-chiropractor for dogs boston and south shore/cape cod
Dogs with hunched backs can be caused by subluxation and muscle spasm in the spine. Typically owners bring their dog to the vet and if there is no disease process, a prescription for rimadyl or duramax is prescribed. These meds are fine for the pain but will not correct the cause of the pain.
I teach vets at options for animals chiropractic college and can tell u first hand that vets are not trained in the diagnosis and treatment of biomechanical issues such as subluxation and nerve interference. As a certified animal chiropractor this knowledge is integral to helping animals.
The hunched back or "roached "back is very typical of this biomechanical issue called subluxation and is correctable by chiropractic adjustments and specific exercises done by the owner. I practice differently than most animal chiropractor since i use home exercise therapy that u as an owner can do. Your dog hunches the back to open up the spinal joints and take pressure off the irritated nerve. Please contact me if ur dog has this issue at 781-337-1180 Dr Bruce Indek

Slipped disc in dogs - chiropractor for dogs south shore boston- cape cod and boston
First of all the disc does not slip, it bulges or herniates. Both of these conditions may be helped by animal chiropractic.
The gel inside the disc can bulge outwar creating pressure on nerves that travel to organs and muscles. If your vet feels that the disc is bulging or herniating it may be a good idea to bring your dog to the canine chiropractor as long as they have not lost use of the leg and or bladder control.
Chiropractic adjustments involving traction and rehab exercises will help. Many times i advise the owner to also use acupuncture in conjunction. I have helped many dogs in this situation.

Neck pain and upper back pain in dogs- chiropractor for dogs south shore boston , cape cod and boston
Many dogs that pull on the walk can cause neck and or upeer back subluxations(joints that are stuck in motion irritating nerves).
This pain can alter walking as well as running and of course jumping. Dogscarry 60 percent ot their wt on the front legs so if they pull the wt distribution increaes. The subluxtions can be corrected by chiropractic adjustments and some rehab exercises. This approach should be your first treatment before MRi and meds. Your animal chiropractor will certainly refer you to your vet if the problem is more serious.
