Vet Care and Animal Chiropractic Care

Animal Chiropractic is not a substitute for Vet Medical Care. If you have an animal with a problem it is always wise to have them checked by the Vet prior to seeking Chiropractic. Chiropractic for animals is integrative with Vet Care. Your animal can greatly benefit from a combination of both.

Back Pain in Dogs and Horses - Chiropractor for dogs and horses South Shore Boston

Many times any owner can run their fingers on either side of the animal's spine along the muscles and see a twitch or feel tightness in one area more than another. This finding is due to the fact that their are nerves that come from the vertebrae under that part of the muscle that supplies the power supply to that region.

If you find this there may be a subluxation [ bone that is stuck in movement and irritating spinal nerves ]. A Chiropractor can evaluate the area and determine if indeed there is a subluxation and adjust it long before performance and movement is effected.

When the subluxation persists and goes uncorrected eventually there will be abnormal stress on the disc in the area and eventually there may be a disc problem.

Subluxations can often be subclinical meaning no symptoms, this is why a program of wellness checkups for your dog or horse by the chiropractor is so important.

Dog Lameness in front legs Chiropractor for Dogs South of Boston

Today I evaluated a Pug with alternating front leg lameness. The Vet checked him for lyme, hypothyroid and other illnesses with no result.
This poor pug had long claws with toe deviation as a result. I advised the owner to get them clipped and do specific stretches for the dog. I also needed to adjust his neck and upper back as well as do some myofascial work on the shoulders since these areas were strained by the abnormal claw length and thus imbalance in the front legs.

If you can hear the claws on a bear floor then they are too long.

Hock Pain in your Horse - Atlernative Treatment - Chiropractor for Horses

The hock is often injected for pain and inflammation but rarely addressed as to why the hock is problematic. Sure they will tell you it is arthritic or stressed but WHY?
Is it the shoes, Is it a low back and pelvic movement problem giving rise to repetitive wear and tear on the hock, Is it a lower cervical [neck problem] causing compensation in the hock? These are all biomechanical problems that your standard Equine Vet will not address. It is not about the pain but the cause of the pain. Board Certified Animal Chiropractors will address the biomechanics and thus fix the problem.
